During the last 2 weeks R.A.P.S. has been outside Coles New World in Earlwood, Woolworths in Marrickville, and at Tempe station informing residents about the smoke stack, and asking them to sign our petition.

The petition is to request the government to stop construction of the M5E extension until an EIS (Environmental Impact Statement) be carried out first, and a proper solution to the vehicle emissions can be found. Some residents didnt even know about the stack, while others were appauled by the RTA, and the State Governments disregard for the health of our community.

The feeling from everyone was the same, "We will not have our health compromised, and if the RTA, and Government think that we are just going to sit back and take it, then they are very much mistaken, because we will fight this to the end!".

In just 2 weekends (only Satruday not Sunday) we collected around 2,500 signatures. Its great to see such community spirit out there, and its not only the feeling of Earlwood, and Marrickville residents, but also residents from Bexley,Tempe, Bardwell Park, Kingsgrove, Dulwich Hill, and Turella who all signed the petitions and all commented at their disgust that our health has to be compromised for the sake of a road that we ourseleves will not even use.
